Ellen Johnston has been involved in church music since junior high school.  After receiving a bachelor’s degree from Centenary College, she attended Southern Methodist University where she earned a master of music degree. Most recently she was the director of Music, Liturgy, and the Arts at Virginia Theological Seminary. Ellen was Director of the Mississippi Conference on Church Music and Liturgy for sixteen years after first having served as Assistant Director for nine years. She is the Past Chair of the Leadership Program for Musicians, and also taught courses for that program from its inception in the mid-90s. She teaches a class in liturgical planning for the Stevenson School of Ministry in the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania. A resident of Virginia, she is the Director of Music at the Church of the Holy Comforter (Episcopal) in Richmond, Virginia.
The Stevenson School for Ministry is dedicated to the lifelong learning and discernment processes of all Episcopalians in the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania and beyond.Â
We seek to make theological education available to all, because we believe it to be essential to furthering the mission and ministry of the Church.
