As Chair of Committee 15 on Ministry, Bishop Scanlan will oversee the consideration of several resolutions related to increasing formation for ordination to include knowledge of gender-based issues in the church (equitable compensation and opportunity); increased training in the stewardship of creation; greater oversight of developing resources for training indigenous clergy; developing financial resources for locally trained clergy; and creating stronger ties between seminaries and the wider church, as we continue to find affordable, quality programs to train new clergy. Other resolutions ask for attention to be given to developing the Ministry of Laypersons, and multiple, small canonical changes in Title III to improve clarity and consistency.
She is excited to see our church continue its development in areas of cultural, racial and gender-based sensitivity, keeping pace with parallel developments in society because it is part of the justice movement as God’s people in the Jesus Movement.
