And please help us welcome Micalagh Moritz, our Sycamore House Program Director. She comes to the role with over 12 years of experience in various community nonprofits, as well as experience living in four models of intentional community, including a service corps year in Washington, DC. There, she lived in a house with six other women, ages 22 to 60 with six different denominations represented!
She has a passion for intentional community living (in its many forms) as a way to learn about oneself and others, and as a move towards a sustainable future for all of us. She spent a year and a half as the Director for an environmental- focused study abroad program in Belize- another experiment in community- this one in the jungle of Central America.
She is a proud social worker and with a counseling/therapy background, which is applicable to many areas of life- both on the job and off.
She is also passionate about creating healing spaces for people to grow and learn, and to build bridges between people of various backgrounds. She is currently an adjunct professor at Messiah College where she teaches a foundation course- Called and Created for Community. The title sums up a lot of her passions. Some of her other areas of interest and experience include: ecological justice, homelessness issues, racial justice, women’s empowerment, trauma-informed care, mindfulness, and conflict resolution.
On a personal level, she loves city living in Harrisburg with her husband Joshua Moritz (a former Sycamorian) and two children- a 7-month old girl and a 2-year old boy. If you visit Harrisburg, you’re bound to see them on visits to the Broad St. Market and local coffee shops, taking walks by the beautiful Susquehanna River, and hiking locally when the weather is nice.
