Diocesan Men’s Retreat: Reclaiming the Psalms in Harrowing Times

January 30, 2026 - January 31, 2026
“Israel unflinching saw and affirmed that life as it comes, along with joys, is beset by hurt, betrayal, loneliness, disease, threat, anxiety, bewilderment, anger, hatred and anguish.” —Walter Brueggemann

Bishop Kevin Nichols will lead men of the Diocese of the Susquehanna on an overnight retreat to explore how the Psalms can be a faithful companion on our journey of faith.

For generations, people of faith have met life’s hardships head-on, viewing them as faith crises, times of wondering about God and God’s fidelity, but also as faith opportunities, times to articulate again their expectations and assumptions, times to reformulate their place in a world of hurt and with a God of faithfulness. The Psalms articulate the entire gamut of Israel’s speech to God, from profound praise to utterance of unspeakable anger and doubt.

We will gather to reflect, to sing, to laugh, to share meals and stories, to meet up with old friends and make new ones. Come step away from the hectic of the world for a time and experience the Holy Spirit within yourself and others.

We welcome all persons 21 or older who identify as male.

The cost is $180 for double occupancy; $230 for single occupancy; and $60 for commuters who lodge offsite. Register on Eventbrite here.

If you have questions about this retreat, please email Rev. Stuart Scarborough or phone him at 717-585-0576.
