Good News on the Ground

These days, the word “evangelism” carries a lot of cultural baggage behind it. When you hear it, you might think of a high-pressure sales pitch no one asked for, or a group of Christians aligned with certain political goals. You might not think evangelizing is something we Episcopalians even do. But it is — in our own way.

“Good News on the Ground,” a new monthly podcast hosted by The Rev. Bradley Mattson of Hope Episcopal, Manheim, and The Rev. Lisa Work of Christ Memorial, Danville, explores real-world evangelism in everyday life. No scripts. No pressure. Just real stories of how the Good News shows up in our neighborhoods, our relationships, and our ordinary moments. This is the evangelism that Jesus modeled — one that wins hearts, not arguments.

In our Episcopal tradition, evangelism is about seeking, naming, and celebrating the loving presence of Jesus in the lives of all people—and then inviting them to more. Across the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania and the Diocese of Bethlehem, ministries are living out this call in creative and powerful ways. Whether you’re curious, cautious, or committed, you’re already part of the story — because God is already at work in the world.

Aimed at seekers and skeptics alike and rooted firmly in the Episcopal tradition, “Good News on the Ground” releases on the third Thursday of the month is looking to lift up stories of evangelism here in our back yards. Where do you see evangelism in action? Who is sharing the love of Jesus with their neighbors in ways that transform lives? It might be:

  • A small group deepening faith and inviting others to join
  • A feeding ministry offering more than a meal—offering connection and hope
  • A digital ministry reaching people beyond the walls of the church
  • A parish that is forming community partnerships in new and faithful ways

The Revs. Mattson and Work want to share these stories to inspire, encourage, and remind us all of the many ways God is moving in our dioceses.
