The Bishop announces a transition in the role of Diocesan Liturgist

I am pleased to announce the appointment of a new Liturgist for our diocese: The Rev. Anjel Scarborough of All Saints, Hershey. The Very Rev. Gene Tucker, rector of St. John’s Huntingdon, has served faithfully in the capacity as Diocesan Liturgist since 2016, and I am particularly grateful to him for his hours and hours of work in helping to prepare and implement numerous celebrations in our diocese. Gene’s careful attention to detail, his knowledge of the rites of the Church, and his gracious humor have kept us in good stead in recent years. Thank you, Gene!

The Diocesan Liturgist works with the bishop and others to plan ordinations, our annual Diocesan Convention, Clergy Conference, and other special liturgical events. It is a position that requires a keen eye, meticulous planning, and generosity of spirit. Gene has done all this so faithfully, and now, we welcome new leadership in Anjel.

The Rev. Anjel Scarborough, rector of All Saints in Hershey, was ordained in 2007 in the Diocese of Maryland after a career in Information Technology. Active in lay ministry before discerning a call to the priesthood, she served a number of congregations in Maryland before to moving to Central Pennsylvania. Anjel served on the Diocese of Maryland’s Commission on Ministry and Congregational Vitality and Development Commission. She is a member of the Society of Catholic Priests in North America and an iconographer and retreat leader who has a passion for worship and liturgy that is sacramental, participatory and accessible.

Please join with me in giving thanks for the ministry of The Very Rev. “Friar” Tuck and in welcoming The Rev. Anjel Scarborough!

The Rt. Rev. Audrey C. Scanlan
XI Bishop
