FAITH SEEKING UNDERSTANDING- Honest Conversations about Race

Join Bishop Scanlan on Thursday nights in July as sheinvites special guests to speak with her about race and institutional racism inour local context.

In this series, prompted by our country’s present moment ofpolitical and racial tension and unrest, listen for the voice of hope as weseek a way forward in reconciliation and justice.

The bishop will speak with these guests:

July 2,   7:30 PM  The Rt. Rev. Nathan Baxter, X Bishop of Central Pennsylvania and Mr.Anthony Alexander, President of the Nathan Baxter Chapter of the Union of BlackEpiscopalians, Episcopal Diocese of Central PA. Messrs. Baxter and Alexander are life-long friends and leaders in thereligious landscape of Central Pennsylvania. They will discuss racial divisionand healing across decades in our region.

July 9,  7:30 PM  The Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers, Canon tothe Presiding Bishop for Evangelism, Reconciliation and Stewardship ofCreation. We will discuss the theological understanding of reconciliation asthe key to achieving God’s Dream.

July 16, 7:30 PM  TheRev. D. Marie Tribble, Pastor of  FirstChristian Church (Disciples of Christ)in Lemoyne, PA, Counselor and Founder ofFace-2-Face Ministries working to help people achieve “emotional justice” aftertrauma. The Rev. Tribble will offer us an understanding of the work to be donein achieving racial justice and harmony from her perspective as a pastoralleader and ecumenical partner.

July 23, 7:30 PM   TBD

This is a “Bishop out of the Box” event in which ourbishop works in innovative ways to reach people outside of our usual context tohear the Good News of Jesus Christ.
